Tempe Union’s Teenage Pregnancy and Parenting Program, housed at Compadre Academy, was the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Tempe Diablos.
The grant was awarded to the district to ensure the continuation of TAPP as a successful “drop-out prevention” program.
The program offers pregnant and parenting students, both male and female, a supportive and safe environment. Students may take pregnancy or parenting classes for elective credits and learn how to care for their babies.
With the assistance of the grant from the Tempe Diablos and contributions from other community businesses and organizations the program is providing services and educational opportunities for 200 students who might otherwise have dropped out of high school.
