AAWL will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year with plans to build a new adoption center.
More than 3,000 dogs and cats, which is a record number, most scheduled to be euthanized, found new homes in 2010, thanks to the Arizona Animal Welfare League & Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (AAWL & SPCA). The number is nearly double the number of animals adopted in 2007, when 1,545 cats and dogs were placed in new homes.
AAWL & SPCA President and Chief Executive Officer Judith Gardner says the organization aims to further increase the number of animals rescued and adopted next year, because so many homeless dogs and cats are needlessly euthanized in Maricopa County.
