Phoenix-based PetSmart, Inc. has renewed its commitment to provide financial and material support for the Maricopa County Attorney’s K-9 Victim Support Program. Grant monies and merchandise provided by PetSmart will be used to support Sam, a specially trained service dog who provides comfort and assistance to crime victims and their families throughout the criminal justice process.

Sam is a Golden Retriever-Irish Setter mix who was adopted from a local animal shelter and trained as a level III facility dog. His job is to provide comfort and support to children and adult crime victims as they confront the often intimidating and traumatic process of the criminal justice system. The National Association of Counties honored Sam with an Achievement Award in 2010. He also serves as the official ambassador for the Maricopa County Attorney’s crime prevention and youth safety programs and participates in similar initiatives sponsored by PetSmart.
