Arizona Animal Welfare League and Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (AAWL & SPCA) will try to place all of its adoptable animals in new homes during a one-day event from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 30 at 30 N. 40th Place in Phoenix to “empty the shelter.” Adoption fees will be lowered to enable more people to adopt homeless pets, making room for AAWL & SPCA to save more lives.

The Valley has the second-highest pet over-population problem in the country. Approximately 100,000 animals enter local shelters every year, and about 42,000 of them are euthanized, even though most could be adopted.

AAWL & SPCA rescues animals from other shelters where they would be euthanized and has nearly doubled the number of animals it places in new homes over the last three years. AAWL & SPCA is building a new facility at 40th Street and Washington, which will allow it to save thousands more animals each year when fully operational.

During the event, adoption fees will be $25 for dogs, $50 for puppies, $5 for cats and $25 for kittens. All animals will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and up to date with vaccinations. For more information, visit www.aawl.org or call (602) 273-6852, ext. 116.
