Army Maj. Michael L. Burgoyne participated in a military training exercise in mounted operations in Ecuador, South America.

The weeklong exercise was conducted by the U.S. Military Group Ecuador, the military force under the command of Ecuadorian Army officers during patrol maneuvers in Humvees and armored vehicles against an opposition force provided by the Ecuadorian Special Forces. Ecuadorian officers and soldiers received instruction on the fundamentals and mounted reconnaissance, security and patrolling operations. They learned and practiced critical crew drills, mission planning, recovery operations and actions on contact.

Burgoyne is a foreign area officer assigned to the U.S. Army South at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. The major has served in the military for 11 years.

He is the son of David Burgoyne of Ahwatukee Foothills. He graduated in 1995 from Scottsdale Chaparral High School and received a bachelor's degree in 1999 from the University of Arizona.
