Phoenix Children's Hospital is reaching out to the children in the community to combat childhood obesity through the Kids Rock Stars program. The Kids Rock Stars program teaches kids and their parents the importance of being active and good nutrition.

Valley families are invited to participate in fun activities and learn health and fitness tips at the Kids Rock Stars family fitness event from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Tempe Marketplace District Plaza (between Cadillac Ranch and San Felipe's Cantina), 2000 E. Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe. The event is free and open to the public.

Kids of all ages will enjoy visiting the Arizona Diamondbacks' mascot Baxter, demonstrations from Phoenix Fire Department, face painting, a running track provided by Arizona State University Track and Field and family fitness activities demonstrated by the YMCA. Demonstrations and activities will be in English and Spanish. The V-Knights, a local blues band made up three tweens from Chandler, will perform rock hits on the main stage.

For more information, call (602) 546-3351.
