Hospice of the Valley will be collecting new and gently used beach towels Oct. 27 as part of national Make A Difference Day.

The towels will be made into “bath ponchos” for patients, keeping them warm and comfortable.

Towels can be dropped off from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the agency’s White Dove Thrift Shoppes, located at 5035 N. 7th Ave. in Phoenix and 8461 E. McDonald Dr. in Scottsdale.

Volunteers for the non-profit agency will sew the towels together to create the ponchos.

Dozens of bath towels were collected during last year’s drive. A brightly colored poncho created by volunteers was a perfect fit for a patient who typically did not enjoy bathing.

“What was usually a stressful and tearful experience for our patient became a positive experience that gave her a smile from ear-to-ear,” said nurse Diane Osborn.
