On Sept. 25, prostate cancer survivor U.S. Congressman Harry Mitchell will be joined by his son, Tempe council member Mark Mitchell, in leading thousands of Arizonans in the annual "Walk for POP" as its Honorary Chairman. This annual community event will take place at Tempe Kiwanis Park and will be a festive, educational walk to highlight National Prostate Cancer Month.

The event will raise awareness of the importance of early detection of prostate cancer. The walk celebrates prostate cancer survivors, like Congressman Mitchell, and honors those whose lives have been lost to the disease. The first 100 men that register will receive a free prostate screening at the event.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the walk at 8:30 a.m. and a celebration ceremony at 10:30 a.m.

Registration is available at www.prostatecheckup.org, or brochures may be picked up at any Maricopa County Pure Fitness or Safeway store. Call (480) 964-3013 for more information.
