While some people may call graffiti "tagging" and others may even call it "art," the city of Phoenix calls it criminal vandalism and is prosecuting accordingly. One man was arrested last July and charged with a felony. Joel DelGado, 28, pled guilty to more than 200 incidents of graffiti vandalism, primarily in the area of Baseline Road and South Central Ave. He was sentenced to one year in prison, four years supervised probation and ordered to pay $10,603 in restitution for the costs of removing his graffiti. Any earnings DelGado has while in custody will be applied to the order of restitution and, when his incarceration is completed, a payment plan will be designed to satisfy the balance by the end of his probationary period.
