Small business owners in Maricopa County are invited to attend a free workshop in June or July to learn how the city of Phoenix business certification programs can provide opportunities for small business economic growth. The workshops will be:

• 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Deer Valley Community Center, 2001 W. Wahalla Lane

• 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Desert West Community Center, 6501 W. Virginia Ave.

The city’s Equal Opportunity Department (EOD) offers free monthly educational workshops to help business owners complete the application process for certification with the city as a small business enterprise. The workshops offer in-depth information about the requirements, process and benefits of becoming certified.

Seating is limited for these presentations. To reserve a space, call the Phoenix Equal Opportunity Department at (602) 262-6790/voice or (602) 534-1557/TTY, or email business.relations.eod@phoenix.gov.

Beginning Aug. 1, EOD will offer a new, web-based certification application process, in response to input from the business community. While the traditional, hard-copy application process still will be available, customers have requested having the choice of an online application as a more convenient and environmentally friendly option.

EOD staff will be educating customers and assisting them with the transition to the web-based application process.
