Phoenix Parks and Recreation is exploring potentially putting parking meters at Phoenix mountain trail heads.

The proposed locations at this stage are for Phoenix Mountains Park (main Piestewa Peak access point), Echo Canyon at Camelback and the Pima Canyon area of South Mountain. Telegraph Pass, the Warpaint access and all other South Mountain trail parking areas would remain free.

The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting an open house to discuss these changes with the public and gather input on Wednesday, Aug. 20 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Devonshire Senior Center, 2802 E. Devonshire Ave. in Phoenix. The meeting will be in Los Olivos Park at 28th Street, north of Indian School Road.

The department will share information about trailhead parking fees, how traffic affects neighborhoods, how we manage resources and possible future improvements. For more information, call (602) 261-8318 or email
