What's it like to be a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) student in Arizona schools? Madelaine Adelman and Matthew Heil, co-chairs of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) Phoenix Chapter, will share how challenging it can be for K-12 students at the free Faces of Diversity Brown Bag presentation at noon Friday, Sept. 16 at the Phoenix City Council Chambers, 200 W. Jefferson St.

Research shows that Arizona's LGBT students face higher incidents of bullying, lower educational attainment, and a diminished sense of safety on their school campuses compared to non-LGBT students. Adelman and Heil will discuss how to improve the school climate through tools such as faculty training, anti-bullying policies, student leadership programs and more.

The free Brown Bag event is co-sponsored by the Phoenix Human Relations Commission and the city's Equal Opportunity Department. Bring your lunch. No reservation is needed. For more information, call (602) 495-0358 or (602) 534-1557/TTY; or visit phoenix.gov/eod/whatsnew.
