Recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as a high-performing local weatherization agency, the city of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department (NSD) will receive a $700,000 Sustainable Energy Resources for Consumers Grant for a pilot program to install solar or heat pump hot water systems in low- to moderate-income residents' homes.

NSD is one of three Arizona weatherization agencies (along with Mesa-CAN and the Western Arizona Council of Governments) and 103 across the country selected to receive the grants.

The grant selections are part of $90 million in DOE awards announced nationally to complement and expand existing weatherization programs. With the help of $7.2 million in previously-awarded ARRA funds, NSD has already weatherized 384, or 40 percent, of 951 units slated for the Weatherization Assistance Program.
