The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for effectively managing its fiscal year 2010 budgets and finances.

The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The certificate was presented to ADOT's Financial Management Services group by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting was established in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles.

Agencies are encouraged to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that demonstrate transparency and full disclosure. Individual governments are recognized for succeeding in achieving that goal.

Reports submitted to the certificate program are reviewed by a committee within the Government Finance Officers Association.
