Beginning Aug. 6 the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department will reopen nine city pools for weekend swimming through the Labor Day holiday. Pecos, Paradise Valley, Deer Valley, Sunnyslope, Falcon, Maryvale, Encanto, Hermoso, Perry were heavily visited throughout the 2011 swim season.
City pools were originally scheduled to close for the season on July 31. The additional weekend operation, which will cost approximately $146,000, was possible because Parks and Recreation Department controlled spending throughout the 2010-11 fiscal year.
The pools will be open from 1 to 7 p.m. each weekend day through Sept. 5. More information on city pools is available at phoenix.gov/parks.
