Hospice of the Valley is seeking volunteers from the Phoenix area to assist patients and support their families. The agency is hosting four volunteer orientation sessions from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Friday, from Oct. 14 to Nov. 4, at 1510 E. Flower St. in Phoenix.
Volunteers provide respite for caregivers, read and visit with patients, run errands and offer emotional support. Most hospice care is provided in patients' homes. Volunteers must attend four orientation sessions. Registration is required by calling (602) 636-6336.
Ahwatukee Foothills resident Oldy Oldenberg has been volunteering for Hospice of the Valley for nearly 10 years. He assists patients in their homes and runs errands, but particularly enjoys socializing.
"We have fun together. The day just goes by so fast,'' Oldenberg said. "It's just a pleasure.''
Founded in 1977, Hospice of the Valley is a notprofit agency that brings comfort and dignity as life nears its end.
