Host families are needed for Japanese students wanting to experience Christmas spirit with an American family. The students are participating through PeopleLink, a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote peace by forming global neighborhoods in placing foreign students with families around the world.

The group consists of 39 students and three teachers that will be visiting Dec. 17 to 21. Each will need a host family for five nights. Families will receive a modest compensation of $20 a day.

During their stay, students will visit the Desert Botanical Garden, experience Zoo Lights, volunteer at a senior center downtown and decorate a huge Christmas tree.

A Christmas spirit pot luck dinner and a surprise performance will take place on the 21st. The day will be spent decorating a room, setting up the Christmas tree, decorating cookies, taking photos with Santa, origami gift making, rehearsing Christmas songs with their American host siblings and more.

For more information about being a host family, contact Pascale Dunton at (480) 460-3349 or e-mail pascale-dunton@cox.net.
