The city of Phoenix is converting 545 coin-operated parking meters to new single-space parking meters that accept credit/debit cards and coins. The new credit/debit meters will be concentrated in the downtown core area, but also in the uptown area and Phoenix College.
The new 545 solar-powered, single-space credit/debit card and coin meters will have a green band around the meter post as well as Visa, MasterCard, AMEX and Discover Card logos so users can easily identify them.
In April, crews will convert additional coin operated, single-space meters to pay stations that will serve an entire block of parking spaces. These pay stations also will accept credit/debit cards and coins.
Once Phase I is complete, approximately 680 of the city’s total 2,400 parking meters will be converted to a credit/debit and coin payment option.
The parking meter rate and enforcement hours both remain the same. All parking meters are $1.50 per hour and enforced 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
