The Phoenix Public Library celebrates the first day of summer and the longest day of the year on Thursday, June 21 at Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 N. Central Ave.

The free celebration begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Great Reading Room on the library’s fifth floor with music by Canyon Records recording artists Aaron White and Anthony Wakeman. At approximately 12:15 p.m., architect Will Bruder will talk about the unique building features that create a visual effect of light and shadow across the walls. At the exact moment of solar noon, sunlight illuminates the room’s tapered columns through the skylights located immediately above them. The music continues with White and Wakeman performing until 1:30 p.m.

The summer solstice celebration is sponsored by the Friends of the Phoenix Public Library. White and Wakeman appear courtesy of Canyon Records. For more information, visit phoenixpubliclibrary.org.
