Ahwatukee high schools offering local businesses sponsorships for this year's 9/11 ‘Tukee Bowl

Each year the ‘Tukee Bowl features the Mountain Pointe and Desert Vista football teams in a one night "winner-takes-bragging-rights" game that brings the community together.

This year the game will be just as exciting and maybe a little more special as its being dubbed The Ahwatukee Memorial Bowl since it falls on the weekend of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

The audience will be invited to attend the pre-game show and participate in the half-time show to commemorate the events of 9/11 and the heroes of our country.

Half-time activities include a special program of remembrance, a moment of silence and the audience participation singing of "America the Beautiful," followed by fireworks. Members of the U.S. Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force will be on the sidelines to represent troops.

Student spirit groups will be sporting a red, white and blue theme while cheering on their favorite team.

Mountain Pointe Assistant Principal Patricia Goolsby is seeking Ahwatukee Foothills businesses wanting to sponsor jerseys or spirit items for the game.

The items will be sold and donations collected to benefit charities for the groups honored during the evening.

All police officers, firefighters, ambulance drivers/paramedics and military personnel can show ID for free admission to the game.

The Ahwatukee Memorial Bowl will take place this Friday, Sept. 9, at 6:35 p.m.
