Special Olympics Arizona hosting clinic to prepare triathlon participants

Join local experts on Triathlon 101 tips and information to prepare for the 3rd Annual Red Rock Sprint and Unified Triathlon taking place Sept. 11. The clinic will run from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at the DC Ranch Village Health Club and Spa, 18501 N. Thompson Peak Parkway, Scottsdale. Guest speakers will provide information and answer questions. The clinic is free and open to the public.

Beginner and experienced triathletes will have the opportunity to compete in a sprint triathlon or be teamed up with a Special Olympics Arizona athlete in a unified triathlon. All participants will have the opportunity to collect pledges from family and friends to help raise additional funds for Special Olympics Arizona athletes.

The Sept. 11 triathlon will feature over 300 participants plus 100 Special Olympics Arizona athletes. The Sprint Triathlon will feature a 300 yard swim, a 20k bike and a 5k run. For the Unified Triathlon, Special Olympics athletes will be partnered with race participants as part of the Unified Sports program. They will compete in a 50 yard swim, a 2.5 mile bike and a .5 mile run.
