The Greater Phoenix Pond Society will host its 16th annual pond tour tomorrow, May 12. The self-guided tour will showcase homes around the Valley, including two in Ahwatukee Foothills, that have put in Koi ponds. Visitors will have the opportunity to speak with homeowners, see the ponds up close, and ask any questions they have about installing their own Koi ponds.

Pam Larkin, an Ahwatukee resident whose home is being featured on the tour, said the event allows people to get an idea of how to go about putting in their own ponds, as well as how much they can do on their own, and how to take proper care of the fish.

“Part of it is so people can see this as something they can do themselves and a part of the society is helping people understand what it takes to maintain a pond,” Larkin said. “It’s a chance for other people to kind of see what different people have done and how they went about doing it.”

In addition to great information and advice, visitors will receive free guest passes to the Japanese Friendship Garden in downtown Phoenix. Homeowners will be accepting donations to assist the Friendship Garden in purchasing fish food and plant fertilizer.

The tour will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those planning to attend are encouraged to print a map, which also acts as a ticket to the event, from the Greater Phoenix Pond Society’s website at
