Desert Vista High School kicked off its Homecoming weekend in style.

Early Friday morning hundreds of students marched along 32nd Street to show their Thunder pride.

The football team, cheer, dance and Latin clubs were just some of the student groups who joined the parade. It was the first event in a weekend that concluded with the Homecoming dance on Saturday night.

Before the Thunder's game against Chandler High School on Friday night, the school played host to a carnival for staff and students.

"Homecoming weekend is an opportunity for kids to create memories that will last a lifetime," Principal Anna Battle said. "That is what I remember most from high school. Our students this weekend will create memories of what it is like to be part of the Thunder."

The parade featured 16 different groups who started at the parking lot on Frye Road, walked east to 32nd Street, and down to Liberty Lane.

"I was surprised at how perfect the parade went," Battle said. "I have the best students and staff in the world."
