Live music will fill the air at Ahwatukee Park on Saturday, Oct. 3 as the Eighth Annual Tukee Fest Rockin in the Park gets under way.
The annual concert in the park will kick off from 5 to 9 p.m. at Ahwatukee Park, 4700 E. Warner Road. Three bands will perform all night including Swain’s World and Tortuga. Attendees are welcome to bring their own blankets and chairs to sit out in the grass and enjoy the music.
The event has something for all ages. While the music plays kids can enjoy bounce houses, a rock wall and slides. There will also be food trucks on site and beer and wine for sale.
A pie-eating contest is back this year with apple pies donated by Schwan’s. It’s free to enter and the first person to finish an apple pie and stand up will win. The contest will begin at 7 p.m.
“It was fun last year,” said Loretta O’Reilly, last year’s pie-eating-contest winner. “They were asking for one more person and they couldn’t get a volunteer and I thought, I’ll do it. It was really fun. It’s always fun out there.”
O’Reilly said she usually attends events at the Ahwatukee Community Swim and Tennis Center because it’s a great opportunity to bring the neighborhood together.
“It’s just fun getting to meet new people and running into people I know from here,” she said. “It’s something nice to get out. It’s low cost, the bands are good, and it’s a good chance to get together with my friends.”
Tickets for the event are $5 for adults. Kids 15 years and younger are free.
Individual ride tickets and food tickets will be sold the day of the event. For more information, visit ahwatukeehoa.com or call (480) 893-3431.
