Winter is still upon us and Mountain View Lutheran Church is gearing up for its second Winterfest, which will be open to all members of the Ahwatukee community.

Winterfest offers different family events from fire roasting to arts and crafts for children.

Christian Discipleship Director Janice Zimbelman said the event had a great turnout during its inaugural event last year, which brought in more than 200 community members to the church.

The main attraction during Winterfest will be its 12-foot-high snow slide.

“It’s a time for people to enjoy snow in Arizona, especially kids who haven’t seen snow, and for the rest of us to see everyone else having fun in the snow,” Zimbelman said. “We are doing this because it’s a way to celebrate community, to get together and have fun. Snow is bit of a novelty here in Arizona.”

Along with fun attractions, Winterfest will also provide free food to the public.

“We just try to create an environment that welcomes the community onto our campus,” Zimbelman said.

Winterfest will be on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Mountain View Lutheran Church, 11002 S. 48th St., from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

There’s no cost to attend the event, and worship will be after Winterfest.
