Kyrene Akimel A-al Middle School athletic secretary, Rita Carney, is being recognized as Outstanding Office Manager by the Commitment to Schools Organization of the Kyrene School District.

Commitment to Schools Organization focuses on bringing awareness to all individuals who encourage student achievement.

This year’s award highlights the importance of the people who staff the front office.

Carney was nominated for the award by the district’s office community education department.

Her job pertains to organizing the facilities calendar, working with student services, and other outside organizations around Akimel.

Carney has been working within the Kyrene School District for more than seven years, being involved with different positions ranging from special education to attendance clerk.

She was notified via email that she was being recognized for the Outstanding Office Manager, which came as a complete surprise to her.

“I am so honored because there are so many good people that work at the department. I love what I do and I get to work with kids, and have a great leadership team behind me that encourages me to do well,” Carney said. “The whole district is just wonderful… I feel very blessed and very lucky.”

She feels that her position as athletic secretary is a perfect fit because she is able to work with students and assist them with different issues they go through on a day-to-day basis.

“This is as close as I can be with working with the students and helping them out. I absolutely love it,” she said.

Carney and others will be recognized at the Commitment to Schools Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, May 2 at the Tempe Transportation Center, 200 E. Fifth St.
