A marriage ceremony often includes the words, "Till death do us part." When spoken, nobody really knows how long a period of time they're talking about. These days, a long marriage is a rarity, and people celebrating a long-lasting marriage should really be admired for such an accomplishment.

Longtime Ahwatukee Foothills resident and personality Betty Teille has parents who celebrated their 70 years together on April 26. It was on that day in 1940 that Oscar and Lillian Clemons became husband and wife. In the years following, they raised four children and relocated from Quicksand Breathitt County, Ky., to Ohio and then Ahwatukee Foothills. Their story includes romance everlasting.

"I met the girl of my dreams on Christmas Day 1939," Oscar said. "I thought she was the prettiest girl I had ever met."

After all these years, Oscar still uses these words to describe his wife and their love.
