Chandler will be represented in next month’s Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

Lyndsey Fry will be the first Arizona native to play hockey in the Olympics after she was named to the U.S. Women’s team this week.

Fry competed the past four months with 24 others for the 21 roster spots that will head to Russia. The final roster announcement was made Wednesday.

“Hopefully, everything goes well and we get gold,” Fry told the East Valley Tribune in August.

Fry, 21, is a 5-foot-8 forward who also played for the U.S. team that won the 2013 World Championships.

The Olympics begin Feb. 7, and the U.S. will face Finland (Feb. 8), Switzerland (Feb. 10) and Canada (Feb. 12) in preliminary games. Canada is the three-time defending Olympic champion, though the Americans beat the Canadians four times this fall in the Bring It On Tour leading up to the Games.

Fry, who attended Corona del Sol and graduated from Arizona Connections Academy in Gilbert, scored a goal and had an assist during the Tour.

The U.S. team is coached by Katey Stone, also Fry’s coach at Harvard, though Fry took the year off from school to focus on making the Olympic team.

“You have to be a full-time athlete to do this,” Fry said in the summer.

Fry was All-Ivy League second team for a second straight year last season as a junior after she scored 16 goals and tallied 36 points.

Fry was captain of four teams in the Chandler Polar Bears youth system before she joined the Colorado Select U19 AAA team in 2010. Fry also was part of the U.S. National Under-18 team that won gold in 2009 and Silver in 2010.
