While dropping her sons off at a summer camp an idea hit local entrepreneur Jill Drummond. She was jealous that they were able to get away and have fun while she had to go back to every-day life.

Of course tents and bugs didn’t sound like fun, but Drummond had an idea for a “camp” escape for women. Instead of tents, they’d have a hotel suite. Instead of archery, they’d do happy hour, chick flicks, jewelry making or belly dancing. Grown Up Girlz Camp was born.

This month, Drummond will host her first event at the Homewood Suites by Hilton. For one price women will enjoy an overnight stay in a suite with a catered dinner, breakfast and lunch, and added activities like cooking demos, scrap booking, self-defense demos, movies, wine tasting, and more.

The camp is designed for busy women, over the age of 21, so it is only a 24-hour camp. Women check in on Saturday, Sept. 21, enjoy their suite, a happy hour and a movie before bed, and wake up the next day (after sleeping in of course) for a day full of activities before heading home after 4 p.m.

Drummond is director of training and education for a large corporation so she’s used to planning large activities. She said it has always been a dream to throw an event just about women, so that’s what she decided to do.

“The primary goal of this is for women to relax, take time out for themselves, but also have an opportunity to meet other women in the Valley that they can become very good friends with,” Drummond said. “It’s a very comfortable environment. We say, ‘Leave your hats at the door.’ As women when we get older it’s very difficult to meet women because we’re now the boss, or the PTA member, or the church member, we have all these hats or filters. I want women to leave all of that at the door and just enjoy being fabulous gals getting together, and hopefully we can make some good friends and just have fun.”

The weekend will not have a strong educational, spiritual or health focus. There are plenty of excellent retreats for that, Drummond said. Her goal is only to have fun.

“We don’t take enough time to play,” she said.

Rooms for the retreat must be booked by Saturday, Sept. 7. For more information or to sign up, visit www.grownupgirlzcamp.com or email Drummond at jill@grownupgirlzcamp.com.
