A popular jazz musician and a classic Italian singer will come together for one night on Friday, Sept. 13, live at Secreto.
The duo will perform from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Ahwatukee restaurant, located at 4232 E. Chandler Blvd., Suite 24.
Guitarist Pete Gitlin has had international recognition for his jazz music. He recently released his second album, titled “Amplify,” which features many well-known jazz musicians. This weekend he will team up with an Italian language professor and singer, Davide Valenti. The duo is part of a trio called Il Complesso (the group’s pianist, Dave Henning, will not be able to make it to the performance at Secreto).
Il Complesso performs classic Italian songs along with a mix of modern Italian and Brazilian songs and music made famous by Italian singers. Each tune the group performs is given a modern feel.
“Our niche is Italian music, but a variety of classic and modern Italian songs,” Valenti said. “In addition, we’ll be playing some tunes in Portuguese, I will be singing in Portuguese, and a selection of jazz standards made famous by singers like Frank Sinatra.
“We’ll do some pop tunes as well, maybe some Steve Wonder, maybe some Beatles or Billy Joel. It’s really a mix.”
Il Complesso is a fairly new group but has several shows planned for the future. For more information on the group, visit www/ilcomplesso.com or facebook.com/ilcomplessomusic.
