The Ahwatukee Foothills chapter of Chat, Chew and Chocolate will be hosting a special event Wednesday to honor local breast cancer survivors.

There is one Ahwatukee woman in particular who will be taking the main stage as the "Queen Diva of the Year." Organizers giving her that award title say she is, "a remarkable breast cancer survivor whose presence lights up a room, and generosity touches everyone in her life."

Deb Tisdale was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, and said she has become a stronger person because of it. After being diagnosed, Tisdale went through six months of chemotherapy and eight weeks of radiation. Her outlook on the whole thing: "It was a scary and horrible thing to go through, but it was only one year of my life. Anybody can give up a year to get healthy."

Tisdale kept her positive outlook throughout treatments and, afterwards, when she was confined to her home.

"I wanted to get back to normal and start working again and going out with friends," she said. "But I had the best doctor, the best radiologist, and it felt like everything was working for my benefit. It was one positive thing after another."

But, when Tisdale moved to Ahwatukee five years ago from North Carolina, she said that she found the most difficult part about the transition was meeting new people and making new friends. When she read about Chat, Chew and Chocolate, Tisdale said she was instantly hooked.

Now, she has become queen of the social organization.

"The group is not about anything other than having a good time," Tisdale said. "I've made friends here that I think are going to last a lifetime."

The public is invited to attend the event on Oct. 19, which will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Foothills Golf Course, 2201 E. Clubhouse Drive.

Tickets are $20, or two for $38, and a portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the Make a Wish Foundation, Tisdale's favorite charity.

Tickets can be purchased at www.chatchewandchocolate.com/ahwatukee or by calling (602) 881-8401.
