To help raise money for new musical instruments, the Desert Vista High School band program will be selling coupon books from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Safeway on 40th Street and Chandler Boulevard.

A few of the band members will be performing in front of the store throughout the day.

The books are $15 each and are valued at more than $150 in coupons. Many of the coupons featured in the book are for local Ahwatukee restaurants and retailers.

All proceeds from the Saturday event will go directly to the Desert Vista band and the award winning marching band.

The students have been using the same instruments for the past 11 years, said Katie Kowalski, a member of the Desert Vista Band Boosters.

Besides the performance on Saturday, the marching band can be seen this Friday, Sept. 11, on the Desert Vista football field performing at halftime for the first home football game of the season against Pinnacle High School.

Leslie D’Ambrosio is interning this semester at AFN. She attends ASU.
