One-of-a-kind quilts will be sold March 9-11 to benefit the Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA at 3 Dudes Quilting in Ahwatukee Foothills.

Local fabric and pattern designers Barbara Groves and Mary Jacobson, co-owners of Me and My Sister Designs, have donated 15 quilts to be sold over the three days.

Each quilt will have a suggested price from $40 to $100 and all proceeds will go to the Arizona Animal Welfare League and SPCA. Anyone who purchases a quilt will also be allowed to choose a design by Me and My Sister Designs to try for themselves.

"They are local designers, they are well thought of," said Ray Steeves, co-owner of 3 Dudes Quilting. "This is their fabric they designed, their pattern they designed, and then they made up the quilts. They're quilted and done and the quilts would normally be worth considerably more than they're going to be priced at."

Groves and Jacobson once owned their own shop in the same location as 3 Dudes Quilting 12 years ago. When their design business took off the women sold the shop to focus solely on designs. The two have become loyal customers to 3 Dudes Quilting since its opening two years ago.

"They're in here shopping all the time and giving us good ideas of what's going on," Steeves said. "We want to support them and what they're doing like they've supported us, and support the Arizona Animal Welfare League. So it's really cool. We're really excited to be doing it."

Groves says they are excited to do it, too. They sell their designs in stores like Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores and other quilting stores across the Valley, so they are constantly making examples of their work to show. Once the fabrics are no longer for sale the women are left with the examples and are not sure what to do with them. Groves said this seemed like a great chance to raise some money for a good cause.

"It's a great charity and maybe it will get some people interested in quilting," Groves said.
