Tips on the battle against teen acne

We all know that being a teenager isn't easy. There are a million things to worry about and acne doesn't have to be one of them. Hormone fluctuations can contribute to acne, and hormones change constantly between the ages of 12 to 22. We can't control what our hormones are doing; however, there are some things that we can control when it comes to our skin.

A pimple is a pore that gets clogged with dead skin cells and sticky oil produced by your body. Oilier skin tends to be stickier; therefore, anything (products, bacteria, and dirt) will get stuck easier, giving your pores more of a chance to get clogged. Here are a few simple things that you can do at home to help keep your skin as blemish free as possible.

• Consistent skin care regimen. Wash your face morning and night with good products, and stick with them.

• Wash your face with a washcloth. The texture will help to pull off any extra dirt and oil.

• Change your pillowcase at least once a week. Bacteria live everywhere. You want to try to have only clean things touching your face as much as possible.

• Be conscious of what is touching your face. Cell phone, hands, hair products etc. Remember bad bacteria are on every single thing. The less bad bacteria you allow getting on your skin, the easier to keep you face clear.

• If you wear makeup, choose mineral make up. It is much healthier for your skin and will not clog pores.

• Eat as healthy as you can. If you put nutritional foods into your body, your entire system will function more effectively, including your skin. Processed, refined, and sugary foods take longer to exit the body and will only contribute to poor skin health.

• Drink water! Drink half of your body weight in ounces daily to properly hydrate and detoxify your insides. You will absolutely feel the difference and you will be able to see the difference in your skin.
