The 101 Horizon Honors High School seniors took the next big step in their lives on Wednesday.

The Class of 2011 graduated at Bethany Community Church in Tempe and said farewell to friends and teachers, many of whom they have known their entire academic lives.

Of the 101 graduates, 58 will be attending a four-year university in the fall, six will be joining the military, 33 have enrolled in community college, two will join the workforce and two will be attending a trade school.

Valedictorian Ryan Sangston, 18, said he was anxious before graduation but excited about moving on.

"It's kind of sad ... I've been here since third grade," said Sangston, who will be a neuroscience and cognitive behavior major at the University of Arizona next year. "I'll miss the people ... but I am ready to move on."

The last day of school for the seniors was on Friday, May 27.

The Class of 2011 earned more than $6.5 million in scholarships to go toward their future education.
