Just in time for the branch’s extended service hours, Ahwatukee Foothills’ Ironwood Library has hired a new branch manager.

Kathy Husser, who has lived in Ahwatukee since 1991, said she is excited to be in her community after working for libraries in Chandler and Glendale.

“It feels very good to come home,” Husser said.

Husser praised the Ironwood branch near 44th Street and Chandler Boulevard for its service and smooth operations, as she plans to continue on that path as manager.

“We want to implement the new strategic plan that will come out for the library system, as well as keeping customer service up,” Husser said.

In doing so, the library’s extended service hours begin Aug. 6. Nine Phoenix Library branches, including Ironwood, will be open until 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Husser credited the service changes to an increased budget provided by City Manager David Cavazos, after appointing new Phoenix librarian Rita Hamilton.

“I feel the economy is on the upswing and things are looking good, because the services are increasing,” Husser said.

The Greater Phoenix Digital Library has vast resources, Husser said, from audio to ebooks and other materials.

Husser agrees the format for reading books and magazines is changing and that the library makes sure to meet the needs for as many citizens as possible in a print or ebook format.

“Ahwatukee is an awesome place to live; and we want to be their awesome library,” Husser added.

Ironwood Library is located at 4333 E. Chandler Blvd. For more information on new service hours effective Aug. 6, call the library at (602) 262-4636.
