Students can still get their dose of school activities resembling the Kyrene School District’s Kids Clubs during winter break.

Stemming from the after-school program, Kid’s Club, two schools in the district will be hosting winter camps for six days out of the two-week break.

Kyrene de la Estrella in Ahwatukee, including Kyrene de las Manitas in Tempe, will be open to all kids in kindergarten through fifth grade.

“Every day will be something new,” said Kyrene Program Manager Jennifer Wetzel. “Staff takes a lot of time planning the camps.”

The camps will begin next Wednesday, Dec. 26 and run Wednesdays through Fridays until Jan. 4. This year’s theme is “Destination Hawaii” and students participating will be able to build surfboards, volcanoes, and have a luau party.

Classrooms and multipurpose rooms will be used from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at each school during the camps. On average, about 150 kids are hosted by the district for the camps. Students can come and go, stay for certain time periods, or participate all day long.

“It’s great that different kids come, our students get to meet new kids,” Wetzel added.

Kyrene de la Estrella is located at 2620 E. Liberty Lane.

Parents can register students in person at the district office, 8700 S. Kyrene Road.
