As the holidays draw near, the Ahwatukee Foothills News and the East Valley Tribune are collecting new and unused toys to help give hospitalized children a little uplift in their spirits.

Through Dec. 16, the Ahwatukee Foothills News and the East Valley Tribune will accept items at their offices — S. 51st St., Suite 1, in Ahwatukee for the former and 1620 W. Fountainhead Parkway, Suite 219, in Tempe, for the latter — to donate to the Cardon Children’s Medical Center.

Everything that goes to the two offices will be delivered to the hospital for Santa to hand out on Christmas morning, with any leftover presents going to one of Cardon’s 10 toy closets to dispense to kids after a serious procedure.

The main requirement for a donation is for a new and unused item — recommendations include toys, movies, books, video games, coloring books and anything else for infants through teenagers — or a homemade item like a scarf, sweater or knitted cap.

As a reward, people who donate receive a raffle ticket and a chance to win a free iPad mini once the drive is over.

Tickets are handed out per drop-off trip, so a person who donates one item or 100 items on a given visit will receive one opportunity to win.

The AFN and Tribune will contact the winner to redeem his or her prize.
