Clinton "Flash" Santoro of Ahwatukee Foothills recently competed at the World Masters Athletics (Track & Field) Championships in Sacramento, Calif. In his five days there, he completed three events in the men's 35 to 39 age group. Santoro ran 1,500 meters in four minutes and 31 seconds, the 10K in 36 minutes and 23 seconds, and braved the barriers and water jump in the grueling 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10 minutes and 51 seconds.

He finished 21st, fifth and 10th in the world, respectively, and was the top U.S. finisher in the 10K and steeplechase, earning him the top 2011 season rankings for his age group.

Santoro sets his sights on the 2012 USA Masters Indoor Track & Field Championships to take place in Bloomington, Ind., in March.
