For those needing a safe place to deal with life’s hurts, hang ups and habits, Mountain View Lutheran Church in Ahwatukee Foothills is seeking to be that sanctuary.
Through a new program called Celebrate Recovery, participants will be able to work through bad experiences with one another.
“It gives you a place to release it, discuss it, and find what’s at the root,” said Lynn Costello, one of the group’s coordinators.
Following in the Alpha program’s structure, Celebrate Recovery will consist of dinner time, music, and small group work. Though Alpha’s attendance and interest this year was far below it had ever been, according to Costello, the church has high hopes that Celebrate Recovery will be something fresh.
“We want everyone to come and rejuvenate,” Costello added.
As the first program of its kind for the church, Celebrate Recovery will begin as a trial run once it kicks off on Nov. 14.
Costello said with Alpha not taking off as they thought, the idea to bring the Celebrate Recovery program to Mountain View began just a couple of months ago.
Celebrate Recovery still has a spiritual aspect to it, said Costello, but the main focus is to be aware of issues and be ready to discuss them.
From job loss, to substance addiction, or overall grief, Costello said the program intends to be a help to all.
“It can help you get back on to the right track,” she added. “We would love to see it continue to grow.”
Celebrate Recovery will begin on Nov. 14 at Mountain View Lutheran Church, 11002 S. 48th St.
