Editor’s note: This is the final in a two-part profile on the latest inductees into the Mountain Pointe Hall of Fame. The first story was in the Aug. 8 AFN.

Dr. Connie Kamm says that her experiences at Mountain Pointe are still at the forefront of her memory and she draws upon them frequently in her career.

Kamm opened the school in 1991 as head of the Mountain Pointe English department. It was the second school in the Tempe Union High School District that she worked for on the day it opened, having been at Corona del Sol High School in Tempe since 1977.

“I like opening schools,” she said.

Kamm retired from Mountain Pointe in 2002, after serving the district for 30 years. She has since grown her business, a consulting firm she runs with her husband that provides guidance to schools and school districts around the world. She is a senior professional development associate with the Leadership and Learning Center and is president of the KAMM Group.

“I carry what I learned at Mountain Pointe all over the world,” Kamm said. “I do huge reform projects at the district and state level and I always draw from my experiences. I think what we did and what they are doing at Mountain Pointe are ahead of our time.”

Her work as a consultant began before she retired, but she did it on the side. Her retirement after 30 years gave her the time to take up school reform full time.

“I always knew this was what I was going to do but I also knew I wanted to finish my 30 years before I devoted all my attention to it,” she said.

Kamm will be inducted into the school’s hall of fame at a ceremony on Aug. 31. She said she will be attending the ceremony.

“I’m just really humbled and it’s just really a special thing for them to choose me,” she said.

DC Pierson, 27, a former student of Mountain Pointe turned author, comedian, actor, and more, will also be inducted into the school’s hall of fame on Aug. 31.

He is well-known for his work on Derrick Comedy, a group of actors who produce YouTube videos. In total, their videos have more than 110 million views. Their YouTube channel can be found at www.youtube.com/user/derrickcomedy.

He also wrote a novel called “The Boy Who Couldn’t Sleep And Never Had To,” which is available for purchase on Amazon.

Pierson’s website can be found at http://dcpierson.tumblr.com/.
