Family of Christ Learning Center in Ahwatukee will be inviting the community out this Saturday to enjoy its Family Fun Day event.

This will be the school’s sixth annual Family Fun Day, and it is an event that centers on giving the community an opportunity to enjoy a Saturday morning that’s inexpensive, said School Director Sue Nelson.

Past years’ Family Fun Day events gained much attention from the community, with more than 200 in attendance.

A plethora of games will be located along the school’s playground area for kids to enjoy, along with a bake sale and food provided by Family of Christ.

The main attraction for Family Fun Day will be a magic show.

“Magic captivates everybody. It’s amazing to see them make something out of nothing, and it takes care of all age groups,” Nelson said. “It’s a great family event.”

The money accumulated during Saturday’s event will go toward the installation of rubber cement on its playground area, which will be installed during spring break.

“What we wanted to create was an opportunity for families to come to a fun event where they would be games and a magic show for $5 a family,” Nelson said. “There’s no place that you can go as a family for $5 and be able to get that type of opportunity.”

The children will also have an opportunity to leave a lasting impression at the school. Each child will paint a miniature tile as they please and their artwork will be cemented near the school’s playground as a memorial.

“They can buy a tile for $20 and we’ll have a room where they can decorate them,” Nelson said. “The memorial will be at eye level so the kids will be able to go over and find their tile, which is great.”

The sixth annual Family Fun Day will take place March 1, at Family of Christ Learning Center, 3501 E. Chandler Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Games are available from 10 to 11:15 a.m., and the magic show will make an appearance at 11:30 a.m. and disappear at 12:30 p.m.
