The seventh annual East Valley Transition Fair takes place on Jan. 25 and will feature a host of organizations that can assist students with disabilities in their life during and after high school.
The event, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., is a cooperative effort by Gilbert, Chandler, Higley, Mesa, Queen Creek, Tempe Union, Apache Junction and Fountain Hills school districts. The event will include more than 50 organizations, including local community colleges, the Brain Injury Association of America and Arizona Bridge to Independent Living.
Kay Nordmark, who is transition coordinator for TUHSD, said the Transition Fair is an opportunity for students and their parents to see a variety of resources.
"Parents can run all over the place looking for these services," Nordmark said. "But here it is like a one-stop shop for all different types of services."
Last year more than 400 students from across the Phoenix-metro area attended the event.
"It's becoming bigger every year," Nordmark said. "There are resources for students with mild learning disabilities and for students who have more severe obstacles. It's a place to gather information."
