It's never too late for senior citizens to get an education, or at least attend The Senior University.
The Senior University is a monthly program held by Thomas Steele at the Ahwatukee Recreation Center in which he addresses different financial issues that affect seniors. The topic of Thursday's class will be "Investing vs. Saving."
The class will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. at the ARC, 5001 E. Cheyenne Dr. Space is limited for what Steele calls a "fun, high energy class."
"It's an information arrangement about the options available to seniors," he said.
"Our goal is to give general information on a wide variety of subjects that are up for consideration as a senior."
This will be the third of six classes. In the first class, Steele discussed the ABCs of financial protection: asset protection and planning, budgeting and balance, and caution and cash flow. The second class was about understanding insurance and how it works.
"We look at things like whether or not they should be looking at the Medicare Supplement or a reverse mortgage," he said. "Some of these things need to be handled before they reach the crisis stage."
Future classes will be held on April 21, May 26 and June 23 and will cover topics such as safe-harbor investments, risk planning and estate planning.
Steele has been a financial security advisor since 1975. He and his wife Lori are part of the staff of Wealth Preservation Concepts, 4809 Thistle Landing. That will be interesting to see how Medicare supplements are addressed. There are some new low cost options that can keep premiums low. Online quotes are easy to get. I think my mom used
