All-day kindergarten registration opened this week for the Kyrene School District, offering parents tuition-free classes where kids can engage in music, art, technology and other activities.

As of Tuesday, May 28, parents can register kids for Kyrene Kindergarten, with full or half-day options by visiting the district office, located at 8700 S. Kyrene Road.

Full-day kindergarten is available at all of the district schools and half-day options will be hosted at selected campuses.

Open enrollment for the district began Feb. 1 but is still being accepted for the upcoming school year.

Parents looking for alternatives to a traditional district can register prospective students at Basis Ahwatukee, a new charter school opening in August.

Set to start with about 650 students on Aug. 5, Basis will offer grades 5 through 10 and eventually up to 12th after the first year. Interested parents can visit the interim office for Basis Ahwatukee, located at 10235 S. 51st St.

Horizon Community Learning Center, located at 10235 S. 51st St., is accepting wait list forms for pre-kindergarten and general enrollment.

Schools are set to start the 2013-14 school year on or around Aug. 5.
