Desert Garden Montessori to host multi-cultural fair Friday

A more than 10-year tradition will continue Friday, Jan. 25, with Desert Garden Montessori’s multi-cultural fair for its 230 students.

All day, students at the Montessori school will be able to dress up in clothes or costumes representing their home country’s heritage and parents can sample food from around the world.

“Montessori teaches cultural diversity, and students are constantly learning about different areas of the world,” said school spokeswoman Lecia Michels.

Starting around 8:30 a.m., students will gather for an assembly that features music, ethnic dancing from different countries, and parent presentations about their home countries. Parents can then visit their children’s classrooms where students will make presentations and food will be available to sample.

“I think they have such a lovely time, it broadens your horizon,” Michels added.

Montessori schools aim to balance diversity, ethnic background, and holistic teaching for its students.

“It’s really part of the Montessori education, and it’s one of our biggest events of the year,” Michels said.

The fair will be open to parents and extended families at Desert Garden Montessori, 5130 E. Warner Road.
