Before the weather gets any hotter, take your pooch out for a stroll at some of Ahwatukee’s dog-friendly restaurants.

One thing dog lovers and owners can do in the Foothills with their pets can include light dining at a handful of restaurants and cafés. Before summer hits full throttle, guests can take advantage of mild weather with their dogs on outdoor patios.

Back in March, My Wine Cellar in Ahwatukee started hosting a weekly Pooch on Patio event. Every Monday, the wine bar and bistro caters to dogs on their back patio overlooking a nearby golf course.

“Ahwatukee loves dogs and it’s nice for people to bring their dogs out, they love it,” said owner Zoya Vora-Shah.

My Wine Cellar, 5030 E. Warner Road, hosts Pooch on the Patios every Monday during happy hour and dogs can stay until 9 p.m. Dog treats are also available for those who attend.

Ahwatukee resident Linda Torres said she loves the idea of being able to bring her “four-legged kids.”

“The atmosphere was wonderful knowing that we could have our little girls here,” Torres said.

Einstein Bros. Bagels, 4803 E. Ray Road, has also been a hot spot for dogs. With the bagel shop’s spacious patio, many dog owners bring their pets out on weekends, according to manager Andrea Spencer.

Dog dishes, treats and “doggy bagels” are also available for purchase.

“It’s a really friendly area,” Spencer said.

Other places in Ahwatukee like Pomegranate Café, specializing in vegan, vegetarian foods and sweet treats, has limited patio seating but allows dogs.

Pomegranate, located near Trader Joe’s at 4025 E. Chandler Blvd., is not open on Mondays.

Pita Jungle, 4921 E. Ray Road, though not considered at “pet-friendly” restaurant, will allow dogs to mingle on the outside of the patio’s gates attended by their owners.

So whether you have just one dog, or a few “four-legged kids,” take advantage of these local spots’ love and tolerance for pets while you dine.

“This is a great, unselfish idea on the owners part, a lot of other places should start doing this,” Torres said.

For an Ahwatukee establishment not mentioned, call directly to find out if their patio or outdoor area is pet-friendly.
