The Kyrene Foundation provides a variety of goods and necessities to families within the district that might not be able to afford them on their own. For families who hand-down shoes, shirts and other clothes, being provided new or slightly used clothing can be a huge boost in confidence for the children as well.
The foundation accepts donations throughout the year, but there are several major fundraisers as well. The 2012 Kyrene Foundation Golf Classic is coming up on June 8 and there is still time for residents to sign up and participate.
In the inaugural event last year, the Golf Classic raised over $8,000 and saw more than 90 golfers hit the links in support of the foundation. To sign up this year, it is $85 for a single golfer and $320 for a foursome. The money will go to help purchase new items for the Kyrene Family Resource Center, where families go to pick out clothing and toiletries. Students from all 25 schools in the Kyrene School District can take advantage of the foundation.
Their goal this year is to get between 120 and 140 golfers, said event co-chair Sean Rosebrugh, and they are at about 90 right now. ESPN analyst and Ahwatukee Foothills resident Pedro Gomez will be the master of ceremonies for the awards luncheon. There will also be a variety of contests and competitions, such as contest holes, hole-in-one prizes on all par 3 holes, a putting contest, and more for participants.
More information about the foundation and the golf classic, including how to sign up or donate, can be found on the website, www.kyrenefoundation.org. Rosebrugh said he encourages everyone to sign up by Monday, June 4. You can email him for more information at KyreneGolf@gmail.com.
