Desert Vista High School’s marching band took home its third gold plate last weekend during the Arizona State Marching Band Championships.

Also receiving a trophy for the High Music Performance caption, director Josh Thye said he is nothing but humbled at winning first place again.

“It’s been a journey each year that really tests you,” Thye said. “An aspect of what we do is to make it to a high level and then maintain it, which is tough.”

Two weeks ago, the marching band also participated in the State Marching Band Festival, hosted at Desert Vista.

Giving due credit to his marching band’s former members, parent boosters and other donators, Thye added that he is extremely grateful for the support from the school community.

“They mean so much to me, it really makes the program move and operate,” he said.

Thye said the students even surprised themselves in winning the first place title for the third time.

“It was a difficult, cold and windy day,” he said. “But they had heart and soul, just to see a genuine joy in them makes the work well worth it.”
