Winter break is quickly approaching, and the Ahwatukee Foothills Family YMCA will be offering its Winter Break Camp for children in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Days of Winter Break Camp are Dec. 23, 26, 27, 30 and Jan. 2-3 from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The camp has been an ongoing activity at the YMCA, offering the children an array of fun-filled activities such as rock wall climbing, arts and crafts, outdoor play and physical activity within the center’s gym.
Children who attend Winter Break Camp are also given a chance to attend different field trips each day.
“We take a field trip every day, so we are going to go to places like Tempe Cinemas to see movies, we will be going bowling, going to Skateland, take a hike at Telegraph Pass in the beauty of our desert, we will go to Airworx and Peter Piper Pizza,” said Vikee Diaz, childcare director.
When the children are not attending the different field trips that are offered, they will be involved in different team-building group games, which are open to any age group participator.
“We pick things that the kids really have a good time at, but are also somewhat physical because we are about recreation. It is fun for them to go with their friends, or bring their friends along and go on the field trips,” she said. “Those are big factors for us.”
Registration for Winter Camp can be made at Ahwatukee Foothills Family YMCA’s Member Service Desk, 1030 E. Liberty Lane. Cost is $30 per day for faculty members and $40 per day for program members.
